This retreat is open to everyone. However, if you have trouble running or hiking a few miles, it would be better to skip this one.

Otherwise, you may prefer to sit out on the difficult hiking sessions and participate in the ones more accessible to you.

We will be out in nature most of the day. Alexandra will be taking you through some wonderful places in and around Bran village, for natural movement fitness training, hiking and tourism – including Dracula’s Castle.

Alexandra will emphasize basic yet challenging, mindful movements, particularly ground movement with amazing benefits for overall mobility and stability, among other physical activities.

Alexandra Merisoiu from Dracula’s Retreat and The Merisoiu Technique Institute and Richard, one of Dracula’s Retreat guests answer the question of how fit you should be to participate in Dracula’s Retreat.

Dracula’s Retreat is for you if you want to get a taste of the outdoors, the mountains and the Transylvanian culture. Regardless of your fitness levels, even if you have never been in a gym in your life, you can perform the exercises at your level.

Don’t let the videos put you off, some of the people in the videos have never been in a gym and have never exercised more than running after a bus. Yet, they were excited to carry a log around and throw a few rocks. You too can do this!

Accommodation

During Dracula’s Retreat, you will stay at Vraja Muntilor (Magic of The Mountains) 10 min walk from Bran Castle and Bran Village. Vraja Muntilor is a pension hotel which features all the facilities you need to have a comfortable retreat, including fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, TV and WiFi

You will have a room for yourself or you can share with a friend. Rooms have their own bathroom and tv.

Itinerary

This retreat near Dracula’s Castle and in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains will give you a unique opportunity to relax. The mountains are not manicured, fenced, and off limits. When you go hiking, you just go. You will leave behind all the worries, frustrations, and the modern world and walk into the wild, along paths and old villages, with the spirit of the ancient Carpathian Mountains.

Day 1 Friday

At 15:00, you will be picked up at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) to arrive at the inn around 21:00.

Day 2 Saturday

In the morning, there will be a stretching and mediation session.

At noon, you will visit Dracula’s Castle in Bran Village.

Finally, late afternoon, there will be natural movement fitness fundamentals coaching to develop your body and turn your weak points into strengths in the nearby forest. We will lift logs and throw rocks, just as a gym workout but more interesting. Everyone works at their own level.

Day 3 Sunday

Today, you will enjoy an all-day hike in the mountains, coaching, and guided meditation at the top and the end of the hike. Water bottles will be provided.

Day 4 Monday

In the morning, there will be a mobility and flexibility class in the garden. You will stretch with yoga and Tai Chi type movements and practice guided meditation for relaxation.

We then have breakfast, relax and visit the village for last minute souvenirs and get ready for departure to Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP). We will arrive at the airport around 3:00-4:00 pm local time. Please purchase your return tickets for Monday evening.

About Alexandra Merisoiu

Alexandra Merisoiu, The Body Engineer, is the Founder of The Merisoiu Technique – Institute Of Health And Human Movement and Dracula’s Retreat. She is also a qualified Low Back Pain Management and Prevention Exercise Instructor and REPS registered .

She has set up Dracula’s Retreat for the active individuals who wish to explore other countries while enjoying the outdoors fitness activities, hiking, local food and making new friends.

She specialises in working with runners, beginners and advanced, who want to run faster, further, with less effort and fewer injuries. This is done through natural movement fitness and running technique and mechanics drawn from the many disciplines Alexandra has studies throughout the years, including long distance running

Since 1995 she has explored how the body and mind works. She has done this through using many different sporting techniques and working with a wide variety of highly respected coaches. Throughout her Martial Arts career she has achieved 3rd Dan Black Belt in Karate Shotokan, runs her own Karate club and is IJKA 2017 triple World Champion, 2016 WMO Martial Arts British National and European Champion. She still competes at an international level.

It is through these learnings, and drawing inspiration from respected natural movement names such as MovNat, IdoPortal and POSE Method of running among many others, that she has created The Merisoiu Technique and has established her own unique transformational programs that incorporate thousands of years of knowledge with Natural Human Movement.

Alexandra’s mission is to challenge the status quo of how to achieve the truly strong, fit and powerful body a runner needs to perform at their best level. This is done through building strong, lasting foundations in the natural outdoor environment; reducing the risk of injuries and educating people on the power of the fundamentals of natural human movement and running mechanics.

On Dracula’s Retreat you will be enjoying traditional Romanian food, which means home-grown, organic vegetables, lots of fresh vegetable salads, local meat, as well as cheese, soups, broths, and barbecues. The food is locally grown. Breakfasts and dinners are included in the price.

There is only one lunch, on Saturday, when we are out in town to visit Dracula’s Castle and you may wish to have lunch at a restaurant. Otherwise we can arrange lunch for you at the guest house.

Sunday we are on the Great Hike. Upon request we can provide packed lunch. However, so far, no one ate on the hike. We all had lunch at the hut at the top of the mountain. But it can be arranged on the day at no extra cost for you.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) by 4 pm on either Thursday or Friday, depending on which weekend retreat you choose.

Transfer from and to the airport is included. The Merisoiu Technique Institute will pick you up from the airport and bring you back to the airport.

Return will be at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) early afternoon on Monday or Tuesday (depending on which weekend retreat you choose.) around 2 pm (subject to traffic).
